How to prepare for junk removal day
Decide what stays, create a safe path, and keep questionable items separate. Those three steps prevent most pickup-day delays.
Use one final decision zone
Choose a garage bay, driveway corner, or clearly marked room for anything you have not decided about. The crew should never have to guess which side of a pile stays. Put documents, medication, jewelry, keys, and small electronics somewhere outside the work area before loading begins.
Make access obvious
Open gates, move vehicles, and clear a walking route wide enough for the largest item. Tell the company about stairs, elevators, parking permits, long carries, low branches, or fragile flooring when you book. If a building has loading-hour rules, confirm them with management first.
Pickup-day checklist
- Keep and remove piles are clearly separated
- Personal papers and valuables are out of the work area
- Children and pets have a safe room or supervised area
- Gates, doors, elevators, and parking are ready
- Refrigerators are empty and upright
- Fuel, paint, chemicals, batteries, and pressurized containers are separated
- The person approving the quote is available
Do not hide special materials in bags
Electronics, tires, refrigerant appliances, wet paint, fuels, pesticides, and unknown containers can require different handling or may be refused. The EPA advises people to remove personal information from electronics and keep lithium-ion batteries out of household garbage and recycling bins. Walk the job before loading
Point out everything that should leave, confirm excluded items, and approve the on-site quote. Take one last look through drawers and cabinets. If the job is large, photograph the cleared rooms after the final walk-through for your own records.
